Reclaiming Nuba Images
In 2018, ownership of Leni Riefenstahl’s artistic estate was gifted to Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation). This website documents the collaborative German–Sudanese research project which was initiated in 2021 to catalogue and critically assess the materials that belong to Leni Riefenstahl’s “Nuba work”. This involves cooperation between the Pan-Nuba Council, Sudan, and the German institutions Ethnologisches Museum (Ethnological Museum), Kunstbibliothek (Art Library) and Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin (Berlin State Library), all of Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz, along with the Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek.
